Email hello@mantapad.com with your iPad and Mac models, their iPadOS and macOS versions, and what happened.
Getting started
- Install Mantapad on your iPad and the Mantapad companion on your Mac.
- Connect both to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open the companion. It appears as a manta in the Mac menu bar, not in the Dock.
- On the iPad, choose your Mac and select Connect.
- Make sure both devices show the same code, then select Confirm on each device.
My Mac does not appear on the iPad
- Check that the manta is in the Mac menu bar. If not, open the companion again.
- Check that both devices are on the same network. Guest networks often keep devices from seeing each other.
- Allow Local Network access for Mantapad on both devices in Privacy & Security settings.
- VPNs and some firewalls block local discovery. Try again with them turned off.
Connected, but the Pencil does not move anything
- Turn on Desktop control in the menu bar panel.
- macOS asks for Accessibility permission the first time. If it is missing, the menu bar panel shows it under Permissions: choose Allow, or go to System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.
- While the Pen test window is open, desktop input is paused. Close it to return to your desktop.
Studio mode shows nothing on the iPad
- macOS asks for Screen Recording permission the first time. Allow Mantapad in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen Recording, then start Studio again.
- If you changed displays or resolution, start Studio again to update the canvas.
A window is missing from the Studio picker
- The picker lists windows on the current desktop. If you switch Spaces while it is open, it updates; minimized windows don't appear.
- If previews stay blank, check Screen Recording permission for Mantapad on the Mac.
Setting up shortcuts for an app
- Photoshop, Krita and Affinity get a ready-made toolbar. Other apps start with a Basic set without single-letter keys, so nothing fires by accident.
- Tap the app icon at the top of the toolbar, then Arrange and edit keys. Add a command from the app's menus, or choose Record on Mac and press the shortcut on your Mac keyboard.
- Adding menu commands needs Accessibility permission on the Mac. Apps that draw their own menus, such as Blender, don't list commands; record the shortcut instead.
- Apple Pencil double-tap and squeeze can be set for each app in the same place.
Strokes lag behind
The iPad shows the measured network round trip in the connection details. If it is high, move closer to your router, use a 5 GHz network, or reduce other heavy traffic on the network.
Forgetting a device
In the menu bar panel, open Remembered devices…, then choose Forget… next to the device. You will need to pair again to reconnect.
Updating the Mac companion
The companion checks for updates by itself and asks before installing. To check now, open the menu bar panel and choose Check for Updates…. Your pairings and settings are kept.
